The toll free 2-1-1 hotline connects callers to trained call specialists who can help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether you need to find after school care, counseling or elder care, there are two simple ways to connect to 2-1-1 Maine.

Providers of health and human services and emergency resource services are encouraged to contact 2-1-1 Maine regarding their organization and services for inclusion in 2-1-1 Maine’s Web-based Resource Directory. History and More Information

The first call center was opened in Atlanta in 1997 and the first statewide system became active in CT in 1998.  2-1-1 is currently operational in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico.  Maine was the 33rd state with service and the 15th with statewide coverage. On July 6th, 2006, 2-1-1 was launched in Maine!

2-1-1 Maine is a program that everyone can use.  Since its start in 2006 through 2015, call specialists answered over 723,794 calls with more than 69,284 from York County.

Maine’s 2-1-1 service was launched in July 2006 and is a partnership between United Ways of Maine, the State of Maine, and The Opportunity Alliance (formerly Youth Alternatives Ingraham and PROP). Eleven Call Specialists provide information and referrals 24/7, 365 days a years.  Six Resource Coordinators, a Multicultural Coordinator, two Resource Managers, and a Project Manager keep the database of over 8000 Maine services current and accurate.
