Our Work
United Way of York County creates opportunities by focusing on the building blocks of a good life.
Education: Lifelong Learning supports children learning from birth, youth succeeding in school and adults accessing educational opportunities related to parenting, career and more.
Income:Financial Stability for Individuals and Families includes access to economic and supportive assets (such as childcare, transportation, etc.) for adults and youth that are prepared to engage in the community and the workforce.
Health:Healthy Foundations for Life start with children being raised in safe and nurturing homes, support youth choosing healthy behaviors and ensure that adults have access to quality health care of all types.
Networks for Social Change
Funding from a grant awarded to United Way of York County by Maine Community Foundation and Common Good Ventures has allowed us to introduce a new approach to maximize the impact of our networks to create long lasting change. In 2008 we set the stage to expand the power of our long-standing relationships throughout York County in the coming year when a group of volunteers and staff participated in workshops conducted by the Interactive Institute for Social Change.
These workshops provided the foundation for us to expand our existing network of partnerships and generate new relationships across all sectors and inform public policy as we work to (1) ensure high quality financial literacy education for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 and (2) build awareness of the importance of quality early care for our youngest citizens ages 0 - 5.
